The Insane Story of How the Onion Bought InfoWars
The saga that is InfoWars and the former owner of the media company, Alex Jones continues.
The Onion, known for publishing satire in the form of real-world news, recently bought InfoWars at auction. Alex Jones is a known conspiracy theorist who owes more than $1 billion in defamation judgments for lying about a massacre that killed 20 elementary school children and 6 adults.
The purchase, backed by families who lost children because of the Sandy Hook shooting, would turn over Jones’ company to the Onion.
For the better part of a decade, Jones called the massacre a hoax and used his company to target the families who’d lost children and loved ones.
The judge overseeing Jones' bankruptcy case expressed concerns on Thursday regarding the way the auction was conducted. He has scheduled a hearing for next week following complaints from lawyers representing both Jones and a company affiliated with him, which submitted a bid of $3.5 million.
Jones’ legal team recently sued The Onion, challenging the legality of the purchase.
